Irene P. King

Irene King joined James, McElroy & Diehl in 2004 and became a partner in 2011. She has been certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a Specialist in Family Law and is one of 163 lawyers state-wide to achieve this distinction.  Originally from Indiana, she graduated summa cum laude from Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in vocal music performance. Irene earned her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she was the Symposium Editor for the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation. In 2003, she published a Note in Journal entitled: Are Foreign Sovereigns Entitled to Constitutional Due Process? The Ninth Circuit's Analysis of Personal Jurisdiction in Altmann v. Republic of Austria. While in law school, Irene also served as research assistant to Sally B. Sharp, a renowned UNC Law family law professor, and Buckner F. Melton, professor of reading, reasoning, writing and advocacy training. Additionally, she was an assistant clerk during an externship with the Honorable Ann Marie Calabria, North Carolina Courts of Appeals.

Irene has sung the National Anthem at the opening of Charlotte Bobcats and Charlotte Knights games, and has been the featured soloist at the Mecklenburg County Law Day luncheon and lecture. She currently sings at Naturalization ceremonies held in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.  She has also served as in-house coordinator for the Arts and Science Council for several years and participates in other civic organizations.
