Thousands of dogs live their lives chained outside, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in all kinds of weather. The Coalition to Unchain Dogs, is a non-profit dedicated to providing free fencing, and free spay and neuter services to chained dogs – the Charlotte Chapter (founded by JMD lawyer Neya Warren), built its first fence on November 8, 2009 and has since unchained over 150 dogs.

The Coalition is not a rescue organization; it doesn’t take dogs and try to find new homes for them. Instead, volunteers work directly with the owners, providing respectful assistance, to elevate the human-animal bond and to improve the home the dog already has.

On Saturday, April 28, members of JMD volunteered to build a fence for a mixed breed dog named Greedy. For more information about the Coalition to Unchain Dogs, click here.

Fred Williams gave a presentation on Privacy, Electronic Surveillance, computer search, and Fourth Amendment issues to UNCC Cybercorps students.

Fred Williams was the guest lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Fred gave a presentation on Privacy, Electronic Surveillance, computer search, and Fourth Amendment issues to UNCC Cybercorps students on February 15, 2011. The Cybercorps is a federal program similar to the military’s ROTC program which prepares computer science majors for federal jobs in computer security and investigations. The program was scheduled for an hour, but most of the students asked for a longer presentation and it lasted nearly three hours.

Fred has been of counsel with James, McElroy and Diehl since 2004, when he retired after thirty-eight years as a lawyer with several federal agencies , including service as an Assistant District Attorney in the Western District of North Carolina. He has represented and counseled persons involved in white collar criminal investigations, civil litigation and innovative business plans. He has been an adjunct faculty member in UNCC’s College of Computing and Informatics since 2001, usually teaching a graduate course in the fall and summer each year.
