$864,000 Jury Award Secured by Fred Monroe on Behalf of Dental Practice
September 19, 2019 (Charlotte, N.C.)—Fred Monroe, a partner with James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A., succeeded in obtaining a jury verdict in favor of Dr. Ramesh Sunar & Associates, PLLC in the amount of $864,000. The verdict against Dr. Steven Ghim, a former partner in the dental practice, included an award of $171,314 for embezzlement and $191,000 for conversion. Dr. Ghim had taken patient payments and deposited them into his personal banking accounts instead of the business account of the dental practice with which he was formerly affiliated.
The jury also awarded $500,000 in punitive damages, which “sends a pretty strong message to someone who wants to do this,” said Monroe, the dental practice’s attorney to The Charlotte Observer.
