Caroline D Weyandt

Caroline (“Carrie”) Weyandt is a partner at James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A., where she has practiced exclusively in the area of family law for a decade. She represents clients in all aspects of domestic litigation, including child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, domestic violence matters, and claims for alienation of affection and criminal conversation.

Over the course of her career, Carrie has represented clients in hundreds of family law matters ranging from negotiated settlements to complex, high-conflict litigation. She regularly serves as counsel in mediations and trials involving contested custody disputes, complex financial issues, business valuations, equitable distribution, and other sensitive family law matters. She has extensive experience handling emergency custody and domestic violence proceedings, as well as negotiating and drafting separation agreements, consent orders, premarital agreements, and other domestic contracts tailored to her clients’ unique needs.

Known for her thorough preparation, strategic thinking, and steady approach, Carrie believes effective representation requires both practical problem-solving and strong courtroom advocacy. She works closely with each client to understand their goals, provide clear and honest guidance, and develop thoughtful legal strategies designed to protect what matters most. While she encourages negotiated resolutions whenever appropriate, she is always prepared to advocate aggressively in the courtroom when litigation becomes necessary.

Carrie graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University before earning her Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law. While at Wake Forest, she served as Senior Notes and Comments Editor of the Wake Forest Law Review, competed on the Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Team as a member of the Moot Court Board, worked as a research assistant to Dean Suzanne Reynolds on her North Carolina Family Law treatise, and served as both a teaching assistant and Academic Engagement Group Leader. After clerking at James McElroy & Diehl in the summer of 2015, she joined James, McElroy & Diehl as an associate in 2016 and became a partner in 2021.

Carrie has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America for Family Law and has been selected to Super Lawyers Rising Stars for Family Law from 2023 through 2026. She is actively involved in both the legal profession and the Charlotte community, serving on the Young Alumni Board for Wake Forest University School of Law and having previously served on the boards of the Charlotte Choir School and Festival in the Park. She is a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church, where she is an active volunteer with he youth group, and is a graduate of the Mecklenburg County Bar’s Bar Leadership Institute and the Arts & Science Council’s Arts Leadership Training program.

Outside of her practice, Carrie enjoys spending time with her husband and son, traveling, cooking, and reading.
