Elizabeth A. Williams
Elizabeth focuses her practice solely on family law, including issues surrounding child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, and domestic violence.
Elizabeth graduated valedictorian of the 2013 class of the University of North Carolina School of Law. During law school, she was the Executive Comments Editor for the North Carolina Law Review. Her work was also published in Volume 91 of the Law Review. She was one of three Chancellors’ Scholars (highest merit scholarship) in her class and was awarded the Millard S. Breckenridge Prize in Law Scholarship for being the top Income Tax student in 2012. Elizabeth prioritized pro bono services during her tenure at Carolina Law, including drafting Wills for underprivileged individuals, and working with the Indigent Defense Services to establish a network of expert witnesses for the organization’s indigent clients.
During her summers in law school, Elizabeth interned at two highly reputable corporate law firms in the Northeast. However, after hearing a lecture from a James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A. family law partner in 2012, her goals immediately shifted to becoming a family lawyer at this firm, a passion she still holds strongly to this day.
Following graduation, Elizabeth clerked for the Honorable Judge Dennis Shedd on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Elizabeth then joined James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A.’s family law practice in 2014, where she has dedicated her career to assisting individuals going through the vulnerable divorce process. Elizabeth chose to pause her career while her children were young, which she believes gives her a unique perspective having been both a stay-at-home mother and now a working mother. She understands the different needs and concerns that arise in dual-income homes vs. single-income homes, and she is passionate about helping families find solutions that fit their individual circumstances both financially and emotionally.
Outside of work, Elizabeth loves spending time with her husband and three children, reading, and traveling the world.
